The Original Rectangle-With-Scotch-Rules-And-Type-On-A-Patterned-Field Book Covers

(...all images from here...and click to enlarge...)

I was telling my good friend Okada about how much I love the style of The Nevermind book cover and he sent me this link to these books designed in the same manner - I think they are called Insel-Bücherei and if the last commentor on this blog post is correct they are "a rather respected literary series in Germany (and popular with collectors), spanning from 1912 to 1990 or so".

Sounds good to me...!

Happy Tuesday...

Henrik Vibskov

Yowza! I love the craziness of these designs by Henrik Vibskov. Totally myspace aesthetics. I really dig it. Here is an article to read if you dig it too...

Oh Mondays. I can't wait to be back home again...

Bye!

Sometimes Even the Bathroom Looks Beautiful

Hello! After that crazy link-fest yesterday I don't feel like I have that much to offer other than this bathroom photo essay and a couple of links...

...these chairs from Fine Little Day's dollhouse are just like Maartan Baas's chairs (and look through the rest of the dollhouse photos - they are so great!)...

I'll Cry If I Want To/The Final Countdown PLUS Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg and Charlotte

(...some new additions to my polaroid set...)

Hello! Sorry to be a little M.I.A. this week. Sunday was my birthday and Monday I was exhausted from Sunday and then Tuesday I was out for the night - and phew! Here I am only a few hours away from Thursday! How does that happen??

So I got these lovely gifts from my main man and my New York bff which was so nice and they are both obviously very good at picking up my not-subtle-at-all hints about what I want for my birthday. G also organized a little friendly get-together which was so great because I am the worst planner ever but I really wanted to do something special...I feel really spoilt to have such loving people around me...mushy mushy...but it's true.

Anyhow - I spent most of my morning sneakily reading all I could about the beautiful Charlotte Gainsbourg and the equally beautiful Jane Birkin and sexy-rouge-type Serge Gainsbourg. Wow - what a family...!

(...image of Serge and Jane Birkin from here...)

(...here are some more images of them in my flickr...)

Here is a video of Serge and Jane running around being in love with their famous duet Je T'aime... Moi Non Plus
playing in the background...

And here is a video of an interview with Charlotte about the release of her new album (and for good measure - here are all the other videos of her...)

Alright alright - and here is the scene from Antonioni's
1966 movie Blowup that made Jane Birkin famous - with the sex scenes cut-out bien sur - and here is another scene from the movie featuring a fashion shoot - the clothes are really amazing!!

I guess that's all for now folks...thanks for tuning in...!

Vintage House & Garden Covers and Some Friday Links

(...all images from here and you can click them to view larger...)

These are so great - and in so many different ways! For one - I am such a sucker for old photos of house interiors - especially when the colors are that certain way - I am not sure if it is because the photos are hand-tinted maybe? I also really love the illustrated covers - so elegant and almost surreal...sigh...

Can you believe it's Friday? Not me.

Here are some links to start your weekend...

Watercolour Is One of My New Favorite Things

I bought this book of beautiful watercolour patterns the other day and I am really in love with it! Almost a year ago for Christmas my lovely younger brother bought me a set of paints, brushes and paper. Up until now I have mostly been fooling around but I would really like to get a bit more serious and see if I could come up with some that are as loose and beautiful as these. I think to get there you really have to forget how expensive the paper is and let go a bit!!

Oh ya - and P went to this amazing garage sale the other day and got me this set of paints (still wrapped - never used). He bought them for only 5 dollars but they looked really expensive so I googled the brand and found out that they are from this famous Parisian paint store Sennelier which sold paints to Picasso and Cezanne! Wow.

Totally Digging David David AND Henrik Vibskov Bigtime

Holy Toledo. I really love these fashion designs by David David. Wow! My friend Clayton gave me the link - and guess where he is right now?? In BERLIN after hanging out in PARIS meeting the likes of Bless and Henrik Vibskov himself (I am saving his work for a post of it's own because it is so heart-stopping). Jeez. How is that for glamorous?? Pretty good I think. Jealous. Again.

Miss Rockaway Armada and The Garden of Bling

(...click on images to see them larger...)

My good friend Pocalisers spent the entire summer and a good part of the fall rolling down the Mississippi in a crazy boat she made with the help of some other amazing individuals. Even the The artist Swoon and the Polaroid Kidd stopped by to float on down...looks like such a great way to spend the summer...I'm a little jealous!

Here is an article on the boat from the New York TImes and here is some of Swoon's street art...
