La Lettre 'B'

Hello! Sometimes if you ask the internets - they really do provide - not that this was a big request or anything. I spent one lazy Sunday collecting some letter B's. I just think a big fat friendly B really has something to it - ya know? Anyway...some links now for you:

...folk typography...
...Summer of Love film from PBS and a review of the Whitney exhibition...
...Julie Verhoeven - an interview and a video shot of her working in her studio...
...Hello Awesome - bibigreycat.blogspot.com - thank me later (I am not kidding!! Look through the archives!!)...

Monday Monday

Alright - I am really tired from no sleep last night (nerves, extreme mugginess) - and having my first real back-to-work-day today. Phew.

BUT - I do have this little ditty to leave you with: Johnny Rotten then (wait a couple of seconds...it should load) and John Lydon now...

Enjoy!

Going Through the Vaults

I found these images as I was going through some of my older files on the computer. They were going to be used in Issue #3 of the Worn Journal, but didn't make the cut. I really like this way of graphically intervening with a photograph. I think the results were really interesting. I was kind of trying to add to the clutter of these great photographs by Alejandro Escamilla.

Left Behind

P left for Sweden today - I wish I could go! He left behind these things from his pockets. Makes me a little sad to look at them. I am trying to console myself by looking at Lena Corwin's beautiful photos. She is visiting there right now and it looks like she is having a great time...sigh....

Here are some photos of Yoko and John. Those always cheer me up a little too...

A Bigger Splash

(...image from here...)

P and I rented this great movie yesterday about the artist David Hockney. The whole vibe to the movie was really straight out of one of his paintings - very flat and stylized with slants of sunlight and muted dialogue. It was so pretty! And Hockney's style is to die for - the bleached out shock of hair - the round black plastic glasses frames - the tweeds and the stripes! Seriously - his fashion sense is amazing. I have been trying to take screenshots for the last half hour but I can't seem to do it - so you will have to be satisfied with these clips on youtube - here, here and here.

I really wanted to show you the parts of the movie with Hockney's muse Celia Birtwell. She is so great! The movie showed her drawing her beautiful fashion illustrations and almost a whole catwalk show of hers - Wow! Actually now that I am thinking of it - the fashion show might have been of her husbands designs...either way - they are so great. Here is a portrait by Hockney done of Celia and Ossie Clark....

VInce Collins Psychedelia

I took these clips from this animation called Life is Flashing Before Your Eyes by Vince Collins. I think it is really cool. I am actually really loving this return to trippiness in pop culture - such good eye candy - and it seems really fitting to the times somehow...I guess that is the reason for the great success of this exhibition and of course the ever-inventive Seripop...there are more of his animations posted on youtube here and and here...

Action-Packed

Hi! Hope you had a nice long weekend if you got one...P and I had a really good time - probably the most fun we've had all summer! I am glad we saved it all up for the last weekend...On Saturday P got to do whatever he wanted which meant dragging me on foot into Manhattan twice (there and back), across the bridge straight into Chinatown where we had lunch and checked out this gallery. After that we went to see the movie 2 Days In Paris which is directed, written and edited by the lovely Julie Delpy - I am a big fan of hers - so that was fun. (Here is an interview with her about the movie...)

On Sunday I made us ride our bikes allll the way into Red Hook - straight past this pool (which I visited on Friday) - to the soccer fields for some of this. So good! And then we went swimming at the pool across the street to work off all the food we ate. It was a pretty action-packed weekend!
