Hans Christian Andersen Sketchbooks!

(...all images from here...click to enlarge really big...)

Holy Man. I can't believe how great these sketchbooks from H. C. Andersen are! Thanks so much to Camilla Engman for posting the link! She always has such great finds. I hope it is okay to piggyback her a little on this one...Wow.

There are more sketchbooks here (this one is really beautiful too) and more papercuts here and this is where I got all the images above...

It is a gloomy and cold Saturday day here. I prefer my Saturdays sunny and bright but I guess I will have to try to work with this one - maybe multiple cups of tea and an afternoon spent catching up on email and flickr...

Have a nice weekend!

wow. of course those cut outs have me thinking of kara walker. but it's so cool to see some of the source material for work like hers. anyway, really cool and so contemporary! or contemporary in the way people now are interested in early images....

I kept thinking of Kara Walker too - I guess because we both just saw the show...and ya - these sketchbook pages do look so contemporary - something to do with the folky cut-outs and colours mixed with the old Victorian style etchings...I guess it must be the high/low mix...in any case - they're great and totally up my alley!
