I Feel Like I am Living in a Rain Cloud...

(...from over here...)

Wow - it is so muggy here today. I feel like I am moving so slowly...

Anyway, here are a few links I have been meaning to pass along...

...have I posted this a million times already? I can't remember. The entire Grammer of Ornament is online...
...I am a big fan of Geneviève Gauckler - here is a little interview with her and a print I wish I could buy...
...Reassurance to those who think this is the end of print here and here...
...some nice design here...
...Alright - everyone knows how great Lucienne Day is but just for the record - some of the nice things made with her beautiful textiles (check out that tote bag! wow!)...
...a very hip shop - and here too...
...Did you see these Miro drawings that Lena posted? I am totally into them...

Maybe I'll leave it at that for now so I have some for next week. Hope you are staying unsticky and awake out there. I am thinking about shower #2 today...

bye!

Tomma Abts

(...all images from here...)

Yesterday we went to the New Museum for their free Thursday evenings (7-10pm). I mostly went to see these small paintings by Tomma Abts which I really liked -
the forms, colours and the 3D space effects seemed very modern and refreshing (modern in both meanings of the word, "new" and also referring to turn of the century through to post-war abstraction). I like the formal and intuitive approach to her work - where she just dives in without any preconceptions and begins to balance those three elements until the painting feels complete. There was also a little exhibition on the main floor about SANAA, the architects who built the New Museum, so that was an added bonus...

Here are some links to more information about Tomma Abts work:

...Here at Tate Britain (where she won the Turner Prize in 2006)...

...Here at David Zwirner gallery...

I'll see if I can squeeze in one more post this weekend - see you then!

The Eames's Movie "House: After Five Years of Living"

(...all images from here...)

A few weeks ago I watched the short film House: After Five Years of Living by Charles and Ray Eames. It really reminded me a lot of the things I see around in the blogosphere - kind of the natural beauty of daily domestic living. It is funny how those types of images and the feelings they express never really get old. The movie I rented was one in a series and there are several short films on each disc. Another one I really enjoyed was Blacktop. I will have to try to slowly make my way through the rest in the series!

Here is a good link if you are interested - it gives an introduction to House and information on the other Eames's films...

A Project to Come

I am in the middle (or hopefully nearer to the end) of another project. I hope I can wrap it by the end of the month! Fingers crossed...

Did everyone have a nice weekend? I did. I flew a kite for the first time in years! And I burnt my nose...

I'll be back again soon - okay?

Oh Boy - New Obsession...

(...some more over here...)

I finally went out and bought two disposable 35mm cameras at the drugstore by my house - and now I am hooked! The inspiration came from these great photographs by ddario and the black swan archives as well as their collaborative project thursdaytothursday. I have been really loving them for the weird bad but good quality of the throw-away camera. And you can really see the difference using real film! I haven't used it in so long, but now that I can look at it with kind of a fresh eye I can see the difference. Something is just crisper and clearer. I also like the idea of seeing what you can do with such a simple and inexpensive tool. It is so much more satisfying - something like thrift shopping I guess. You can afford to be extra creative and take chances because you are not spending a lot.

Anyway - I shot both of these off in one afternoon which is pretty scary. Now I have an itchy trigger finger...I am going to have to reload pretty soon!

Hope your weekend is nice and lazy...

Henryk Tomaszewski

(...images from here, here and here...)

I thought that these posters by the Polish Master Henryk Tomaszewski are really great. I love how they are just so fun and loose and gestural. At one point in his obituary they are compared to the Japanese Haiku - I think that is a really accurate description.

He seems like a really interesting man. I love seeing work that stands the test of time...
