Art Ensemble of Chicago Gig Posters

(...all images from over here...)

Along the lines of this post by the Nothing is New blog, I am really really inspired by these kind of handmade, vernacular posters announcing concerts by the super Art Ensemble of Chicago. They are so awkward and charming and I especially love the photocopied look on the standard pale pink, yellow and blue office paper. I wish I could design as freely and honestly as this - maybe someday.

There are some more AEC images around here on my tumblr (Thurs, Nov.20th), including this great logo and two youtube videos - (also here and here...)

PS. AEC did the soundtrack to this 1970 movie, Les Stances a Sophie. I hope I can see it at some point (via &)...

Group Show

I was messing around with some videos last week and ended up submitting one to my friend's super Group Show blog project (mine is the 4th one from the top). Go check it out! It is similar but not the same...

I Am Trying to Make Stuff

I am really trying to kick it up a notch and get some serious work together. Sometimes it is so hard because I feel like I am so small project-y and all over the place - I find it hard to settle on one thing for an extended period of time. Except for this blog I guess. For some reason I seem to be able to plug away at this week after week. I think I have surprised even myself with it!

But yes. Must get together some stuff! Must gather all these little things I have been tinkering with and make something strong with all the parts! This is what I must do.

I happened upon this blog the other day - & - it is so beautiful. I really loved it.

Vivienne Westwood

This one post on mintcar sent me on a mad spiral this weekend. I forgot how great Vivienne Westwood is! What a character. And still producing such beautiful, interesting and culturally relevant things after all this time. I love to see how her creativity and talent has grown into such a force to be reckoned with.

Here is part 2 to that video that mintcar posted and some other good videos are here, here, here (wish there was less "Duran" and more VW in this one but there you go...), here, and here.

Play These All At Once

I have been meaning to try this for awhile. I made these movies months and months ago on my old camera and always thought they would be nice played all at once.

I have a few more like this - maybe I will try this same thing with them too...

That Was Fast

It took a whole day to get there and back but the train ride was beautiful.

Here are a few quick links before I am out the door.

...the lovely Nothing is New blog has a super post on the Whole Earth Catalog (something I have been meaning to talk about for months and months!)...
...I missed the Olaf Breuning show at Metro Pictures. I don't know how I did that. What a bummer. But at least you can see it online...
...I liked the look of this little zine by Himaa at Nieves. And I really like all the other things too on the artist website...
...2 great links from ah-yi. A post on weaving with a handmade loom and a link to a pattern by Yohji Yamamoto!...

Okay - I must be off - back again soon!
