The Year of the Ox

I took these videos 2 years ago on my old digital point and shoot. Try playing them all at once and maybe it will feel like you are there. The New Years parade here in Chinatown can't be beat! I am sad I missed it this year.

New Old Camera

So I got this new camera for Christmas. I am so happy about it! It is a Canon Canonet 28 Rangefinder.
Supposedly the man at the camera shop said it is the poor man's Leica and I really like the ring of that. I only got about 10 or so pictures that I like out of 2 rolls of 27 exposures, but I figure that is not so bad. The images look so sharp and rich compared to my digital and the little disposables I have been using. It is like baking a cake with real butter instead of margarine. Yum.

I am starting a flickr set for these new photos over here. Hopefully I will have more to add to it soon. If you want to see them larger just click "all sizes" at the top of the photo on its page in flickr. You can really see the difference when you do that!

Lost at the Met

(...some other photos over here...)

I got lost at the Met the other day. It is kind of a nice thing to do every once in awhile. I was there to check out the Giorgio Morandi exhibition. So amazing to see the paintings in real time and space! They were very quiet and strong. It made me think about how timeless the "still-life" genre is. I kind of miss it in contemporary art. Maybe someone needs to take an interesting new stab at it.

I made some silly movies too while I was wandering around. Here, here and here if you are up for it.

Crushing on Aki Kaurismäki

This is kind of a strange interview but worthwhile nonetheless. I don't understand what is up with Jonathan Ross - why he feels that he needs to psychologically pick apart Kaurismäki - it just leaves him looking like a far less evolved life form. But in any case, it makes me love Aki even more than I did before. Even when he is slurring and looking glassy-eyed in part 4. Thanks Okada for the link!
